Indoor League Game One report

STOP PRESS!! CROSBY FINDS PACE AND CONTROL

HARRIS FINDS FORM WITH BAT.

Wittle started the new season with a changed line-up from the usual suspects of last season. (Although most due to return for the next tie).  The team led by Simon Harris won the toss and decided that the inexperienced line up could do with a bowl first.  Subsequently Harris  (experienced) bowled rubbish in his first over conceding 18 and a great start to Baddows' eager quick thinking batsman.  Fenton was more steady eddy than superstar and Harris recovered his figures to concede only 10 in his last two overs.. Fenton bowled out for 22 runs off his 3 overs taking the first Baddow wicket with his last ball. Baddow 64-1 Baddow then lost another wicket quickly to an excellent run out.  The spin off Cliff was introduced and as it does so often in these games causes much entertainment.  Another run out on 100 left the Baddow innings stuttering.  Crosby was unleashed prior to this and once he settled produced fast bowling that was way out Baddows' league. Crosby bowled with control and accuracy culminating in bowling one batsman by flicking the top of off bail. Brilliant!  The innings was rounded off with a wicket for cliff and another run out.  111 all out.

Thoughts at half time were positive.  The team had managed to strangle an excellent start for Baddow with some good bowling and fielding.

So Writtle began the chase.  Fenton and Norman were elected to open to show some maturity and experience at the top. Fenton did continue his fine end of season form with a few controlled jabs here and there but fell early for 12. (23-1) Norman preceded to show some of his guile by making the fielders run around into the empty spaces.  Crosby took a few balls to get to grip with the odd feel on the bat of the hardened bouncy ball.  He was looking to take the attack on but limply square cut an easy catch for 7. (36-2)  A few nervous moments for the skipper now.  Dean Simmonds next to he crease......eager!  Having been lectured on calling the run positively not a word could be heard between them as two run out chances went a begging before a third snuffed Deans innnings out.  ( 49-3).  Cliff joined Norman and looked very comfortable and showed some class. Then Norman edged behind for 23. (57-4) And now struggling....  Harris entered the fray.  However, Cliff and Harris  put on a good show, each moving the field around with a variety of tip and run and solid hitting to the back wall.  As each over progressed Writtle looked more likely.  Cliff however succumbed to the same fate as Norman. 16 Excellant runs under pressure.  (94-5) So it was left to the Skipper to knock off the last 18 runs.  He did this with aplomb knocking the first ball of the last over for 6  for a great win. Harris not out on 38.  A fine team effort.

Team:Simon Harris, Paul Fenton, Fraser crosby, Tin Norman, Cliff Leondieu and Dean Simmonds
